7 Steps to a Revenue Producing Brand

Today is my favorite day in the series we started last week—the day we dive into the actual steps of either redoing your brand or building it right the first time.

All so you can get out there more quickly, serve more people & boost your income.

But first a quick noticing.

Most solopreneurs I meet would like more income in their business sooner than later. Or they want the income to come in with less work and more speed/ease. Or if just starting out, they want income to come in quickly.

So far, so good. All totally understandable.

Here’s where the head-scratcher comes in. These same business owners who’d like cash to flow in quicklyâ€Ĥs u d d e n l y s l o w d o w nâ€Ĥ

You say you want the money to come in quickly and then spend hours, weeks, months agonizing over your brand.

So in this email, I want to offer you a different and better solution to building or rebuilding your brand.

One that’s built around being you, so there’s alignment between you and your clients. But most importantly, that can be done quickly.

Like in less than a week.

So with no further ado, here's how you build your brand using four key areas in Human Design in 7 easy-to-do steps.

Step 1: Activate your purpose & brand gate.

Let’s face it, we all came here to do something in the world. And I believe that we create the most impact with others—and in the easiest of ways—when we are aligned with that purpose instead of trying to be something we’re not.

I personally have seen this propel people forward in unexplainably good ways.

You know that saying that “luck” is opportunity meets preparation?

Well, aligning with your purpose is the preparation and then the universe seems to answer by sending the opportunities.'

In other words, you can create your own “luck.”

The good news is that your purpose is spelled out in your Human Design chart. It’s the gate number on the top right of your chart.

This gate of your conscious sun is how you can best make change, or impact situations or others in ways that cause more growth or good to happen.

It can help you, as I like to say, “make the difference that only you can make.”

The name conscious sun kind of sums it up. It’s how you shine most brightly in the world. It’s your particular brand of radiance that others can feel.

It’s often, however, so innate to us that we kind of ignore it. We read about the qualities of our conscious sun and are like “Yeah, I’m totally like that, so what??”

The so-what is that activating the gift of this gate is the beginning of both living out your purpose—and having a powerful brand that shows the world exactly why you’re here and what you’re here to do.

This generally creates resonance with others who want what you do. When you activate your main strength, you are owning your gifts in a way that creates attraction toward you.

Step 2: Unveil your ideal client & identify their challenges.

I’ve said it a million times and probably will a million more: your marketing is not about you, it’s about the other person.

Because even though it’s business, it’s still all about a relationship between you and another.

In my opinion, the main purpose of having a business is to create this sacred exchange. Imagine trying to have a sacred relationship by only talking about yourselfâ€Ĥwhat you do, what you’ve been trained in, what you see as their problem, what you think they should do, etc.

Probably wouldn’t be a successful relationship, am I right?!?

We likely all know people who treat relationships like that and have learned to steer clear of them.

We definitely have all seen people who treat their marketing like this. Buy my thing. See this cool thing I’m doing?? Do you wanna buy my thing because I think you shouldâ€Ĥon and on that in your face, look at me marketing goes.

Let's shift the perspective here.

If you need to make your marketing about the other person, it’s pretty crucial that you know who that is. Which means figuring out your ideal client and understanding what they struggle with.

Traditional marketing tactics say to make that person up in your mind as your avatar.

I say look at your Human Design chart to get some insights into who you were born to come across and mingle with in this lifetime.

It’s not so simple that I can share it all here and expect that viola! you’ll have it, but the gist of it is to blend some information in your conscious sun with some information from your north and south nodes and make decisions about that information using your natural decision-making style (what’s called your inner authority in Human Design).

In this way, you are not “making it up” but rather letting your design help show you who is a natural fit and shine the light on some of the challenges they may face.

Step 3: Decide what problem you solve & create your message.

Next up is figuring out your message. Even for good writers and speakers, it can feel difficult to know what to say in our branding & marketing.
But if writing or speaking is not really your thing, it can feel darn near impossible.

The main reason we get stuck is because we feel like we have to figure out the RIGHT things to say in order to get someone to want to work with us or buy our thing. But that’s not true.

Here’s the deal: you don’t have to say anything in the RIGHT way to get clients.

Instead, you have to speak about solving their problems in ways that help them see that you understand their issue and have a correct-for-them approach to solving it.

This will build trust, credibility and curiosity with the right people. And it will repel the wrong people.

This is how you get booked solid with dream clients who need just what you do. The way you do it. It’s not about you pretending to say something in a way you think might be what the other person wants to hear.

When you get back to that relationship context, it starts to make sense. A good marketing or brand message is the exact opposite of people-pleasing.

Your message needs to put a stake in the ground to claim the one problem you solve in a way that only your ideal client can hear it.

To do this with your Human Design, you need to combine what you learned from the step above, blend it with some traditional market research tactics and then use your decision-making authority to choose the correct message.

Step 4: Find your brand voice & use it.

Figuring what your business voice is—and how to use it—is next. Now we know what to talk about as we worked through steps 2 & 3.

This step is all about how we talk about it.

Turns out that there’s a particular point of view innate to you that makes it easier to do this. But it probably comes so naturally to you that you don’t even notice it.

Your conscious sun has a profile line associated with it that can tell you exactly what your brand voice is, and what it isn’t.

Here we look to Gene Keys which is what I lovingly call Human Design 2.0. There are six profiles that go along with your brand gate that range from boldness to passion to humor and more.

You know how some people are naturally funny or bold or love to share? This is likely someone who’s already using their brand voice and doesn’t even know it. When you take the time to know & use this in your brand, you’ll increase the authenticity in how you share which can increase the receptivity to it.

Knowing your brand voice makes it a lot easier to know how to talk in your marketing materials which can guide you or those you hire to create your content.

(Optional) Step 5: Remove blocks to your brand being coherent & consistent.

No brand can get clients if you’re not consistent in sharing it with the world. If you’re one of those rare breeds who tends to be consistent, skip this step.

Everyone else, stick with me for a moment.

If you’ve been stalling out on building your brand or wanting to rebrand but can’t seem to figure out how to do it in the right way, it could be that you’re dealing with a split in your design.

You need to check your Human Design chart to see if you have a single definition or a split of some sort.

Having a split makes it harder to make decisions and often creates a lack of consistency in how you show up. You have to learn how to manage this so you can have brand coherence and be consistent, or else your efforts can fizzle out.

Step 6: Use your brand archetype to shape your offers & create materials.

Finally, we are at the step where you step into your brand’s archetype. Shouldn’t we have started there? Nope.

Yes, your archetype is the character essence that your conscious sun has. It’s sort of like the clothing or look/feel you can dress your brand up in that is in deep resonance with that gate.

But as I’ve been trying to stress, an effective brand has to be more than skin deep. If you don’t have the first five steps figured out, this step can fall flat.

Sort of like the phrase “putting lipstick on a pig” which means you won’t be fooling anyone.

When I work with someone on their brand, I don’t recommend that they use their brand archetype as a character or to shape the look/feel of their brand in the beginning.

Instead, I stress that you must integrate your archetype into the back end of your business in your offers and messaging. In other words, just “be” in your brand archetype in how you walk/talk/act in your business.

Often this is enough to turn on the flow of clients.

For example, my brand archetype essence is “truth-telling.” I have had a successful business for years based on this essence being in the back end of my business. I’m only now after 10 years in my business looking at how this archetype can inform the graphics & fonts to expand on what I’ve already built.

You don't have to get caught up in flashy graphics or design to have a brand that sells. It's all about creating alignment instead.

Step 7: Step forward with an aura that attracts the right clients.

The last step in the process is to take what you’ve uncovered so far and start sharing it. But each type in Human Design is meant to share in a different way.

Share in alignment with your type and you’re golden. Don’t and all the work you’ve done may not be received well.

Each of the Human Design types has a unique way of working, acting and reaching out to others. Knowing how your type should share the brand you’ve created is necessary to share in ways that bring people toward you, instead of chasing them away.

Ever have the experience where someone approaches you to share something and it just doesn't "feel" good to receive it? But when you review it in your minds eye, you can't name why.

It's not that they said anything particularly bad, in fact their sharing might have even been helpful but it just didn't "feel" right.

That's because it's all about the aura, baby!!

Getting your behaviors into alignment with your type can make your aura attractive instead of repelling. Sure, the energy you bring to your branding & marketing makes a difference but your actions speak the loudest.

You want to be sure you’re acting in alignment with your unique type in everything you do in your business, including how you share your brand.
Unlock the four key points quickly to win.

There we have the four key points of your Human Design to unlock if you want to quickly build the right brand and boost your income: your conscious sun, your north/south nodes, your definition and your type/authority.

If you follow the 7 steps above your brand can be up and running...and starting to call in clients in less than a week.

I will stress: making money quickly by building the right brand is awesome, yes.

But in my mind, the most fulfilling part about building the right brand is that it brings a certain confidence into your business which helps you in delivering real, lasting, results for your clients.

You don't get stuck in questioning if you made up the right stuff or if this really fits you. Instead, you feel the deep "aha" of having the permission to truly be the full you in your business.

Which leads us to an important question: what if I build my brand and people still don’t buy?

I’ll tell you exactly what to do if that happens in my next article, including the "pro move" that we branding professionals use.
